The Fundamentals
What is identity verification and KYC support?
Identity verification (KYC) is the process of confirming that an individual is who they claim to be — through document authentication, biometric or documentary comparison, and screening against sanctions and adverse lists.
Know-Your-Customer obligations are no longer confined to banks. Any business that moves significant value across borders — and every institution that services it — needs defensible records of who is on the other side of a transaction.
Our KYC support verifies individuals involved in your transactions: signatories, beneficial owners, authorised representatives and high-risk counterparties. Identity documents are authenticated, the person is matched to the document, and screening checks for sanctions, politically exposed persons and adverse media.
The output is a documented verification file — the evidence your compliance function, your bank and your auditors expect to see, assembled by an independent party.
Verification Components
The building blocks of an identity file
Each component addresses a distinct impersonation or concealment risk.
Document authentication
Passports, national IDs and driving licences checked for authenticity — security features, data consistency, tampering indicators.
Identity-to-document match
The person is confirmed against their document through photographic comparison or supervised verification sessions.
Liveness & presence
Where remote verification is used, liveness checks confirm a real, present person — not a photograph or deepfake.
Sanctions screening
Screening against major international sanctions lists relevant to the transaction’s jurisdictions and currencies.
PEP & adverse media
Politically exposed person status and adverse-media indicators identified and assessed for relevance.
Beneficial ownership
For corporate counterparties, the natural persons who ultimately own or control the entity are identified where records permit.
Step by Step
How a KYC verification engagement runs
A controlled, auditable process from instruction to documented file.
Scope the requirement
You identify the individuals to verify and the compliance context. We confirm the applicable checks and standards.
Collect documents securely
Identity documents are collected through a secure channel with handling procedures appropriate to personal data.
Authenticate documents
Each document is examined for authenticity — security features, issuing-country characteristics, tampering signs.
Verify the person
The individual is matched to the document through supervised or technology-assisted verification with liveness confirmation.
Screen
Sanctions, PEP and adverse-media screening runs against the relevant lists; true matches are investigated, not just flagged.
Document the file
Results are compiled into a verification file with sources, dates and conclusions — ready for your compliance records.
Compliance Context
Where KYC support fits — and where it does not
We build the evidence. Your compliance function makes the regulatory judgment.
KYC requirements differ by jurisdiction, regulator and institution. Our role is to produce independent, well-documented verification evidence that your compliance team can assess against the rules that apply to you.
- We verify identities and produce documented evidence
- We screen against major international sanctions frameworks
- We identify PEP status and adverse-media indicators
- We do not provide legal advice on your regulatory obligations
- We do not make regulatory determinations on your behalf
- Your compliance officers remain the decision-makers
Not a regulatory licence
TrustGuard Global provides verification and screening support services. We are not a regulated financial institution, and our reports support — they do not replace — your own compliance programme.
Personal data handled properly
Identity verification involves personal data. Collection, processing and retention follow documented procedures aligned with our Privacy Policy.
Verification Levels
Matching verification depth to risk
Depth is calibrated to the individual’s role, the transaction value and the jurisdictions involved.
| Component | Standard identity check | Enhanced due diligence |
|---|---|---|
| Document authentication | Primary identity document verified | Multiple documents cross-verified |
| Person verification | Photographic match with liveness check | Supervised verification session |
| Screening | Major sanctions lists | Sanctions, PEP and adverse-media with deeper source review |
| Background | Not included | Role, affiliations and source-of-funds indicators where obtainable |
| Beneficial ownership | Recorded ownership summary | Ownership chain research to natural persons where records permit |
| Typical use case | Routine counterparties and signatories | High-value deals, sensitive jurisdictions, PEP indicators |
Common Questions
Identity verification questions, answered
Yes. Remote verification combines document authentication with supervised video sessions and liveness checks. Where jurisdiction or risk level requires in-person verification, we arrange it through our network or advise on the appropriate standard.
We screen against major international sanctions frameworks relevant to the transaction — typically including the principal US, EU and UN lists, plus jurisdiction-specific lists where the deal requires them. The exact screening set is defined in the engagement.
Personal data is collected over secure channels, processed only for the verification purpose, retained for the documented period and handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Individuals are informed of the verification and its purpose.
Automated matches are investigated by analysts to separate true matches from false positives — name similarity alone is not a finding. True matches are reported with the supporting detail your compliance team needs to make its determination.
No. While many clients combine KYC with escrow, verification engagements also stand alone — for onboarding new counterparties, satisfying bank requirements, or refreshing files on existing relationships.
